Council of Trustees

The Council of Trustees is the governing body responsible for the operation and development of Brescia University College.

Among its responsibilities, the Council of Trustees provides strong stewardship to Brescia, ensuring that its operations and actions align with its vision, mission and values. The Council of Trustees facilitates strategic planning for Brescia and monitors the implementation of those objectives identified through that planning. As Brescia’s governing body, the Council of Trustees is also responsible for appointing and supporting the Principal and for monitoring her performance, and for establishing policies that ensure the best operations of Brescia. The Council of Trustees advocates on Brescia’s behalf in the broader community, ensuring that Brescia will always be able to effectively achieve its core mission of educating women. Finally, the Council of Trustees ensures that Brescia meets its legal, budgetary and financial obligations at all times, identifying and managing risks and ensuring the responsible management of Brescia.

Liz is currently the Council of Trustee’s Coordinator and is also a member of the Employee Relations Committee. Liz is an attorney in London.	Marlene also sits on the Property and Facilities Planning Committee. She is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director, Program Development of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health at Western University.	Maria, who joined the Council in 2005, serves on the Finance Committee, and is the past Coordinator of the Council. She retired recently from Ernst & Young.

Paul Caplan sits on the Brescia Council of Trustees as a community trustee. Paul is also the owner of Novacks in London.	Jane is a community trustee and is also the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. She is the Executive Director of the Children’s Aid Society, London and Middlesex.	Hanna sits on the Finance Committee and is a community trustee. She is a Tax Manager at 3M Canada Company.

In her capacity as Principal of Brescia, Colleen is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustees, serving on all Council committees and sub committees. She also serves on all Foundation committees except the Governance Committee.	Heather is in her first year as the Alumnae Council representative for the Council of Trustees. Heather is also Brescia's Alumnae Association President.	Ann, as chair of the Brescia University College Foundation represents the Foundation on the Council of Trustees. She is a management consultant, working for Creating Dynamic Organizations in Toronto.

As Brescia University College’s Students Council President for the 2012-2013 academic year, Jazmyn is the students representative on the Council of Trustees.	Lynne has been a community trustee since 2010 and sits on the Joint Long Term Planning Committee. Lynne is currently the Director, Neighbourhood and Children’s Services, with the City of London.	Larry is a community trustee and a member of the Property and Facilities Planning Committee. Larry is Director, Business Development for the London Economic Development Corporation.

Theresa, who serves on the Long Term Planning Committee and the Governance Committee, is retired from elementary school teaching and chaplaincy at Brescia and currently volunteers at the Ursuline Centre at Brescia, L’Arche, and My Sisters’ Place.	Kim, who is in her second three-year term on the Council of Trustees, is the Director of The Circle Women’s Centre and The Institute for Women in Leadership (iWIL) at Brescia.	Dr. John Mitchell is a professor in the Psychology Department and is Brescia’s Academic Dean. As the Academic Dean John is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustees.

Sara is in her first year as a faculty representative for the Council of Trustees, and is a faculty member in the Division of Social Science at Brescia.	Theresa is in her sixth year as a faculty representative for the Council of Trustees. She is a faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Brescia.	Karen sits on the Council of Trustees as a member of the Finance Committee, the Property and Facilities Planning Committee, the Joint Long Term Planning Committee, and the Employee Relations Committee.

Tracey is serving her first ex-officio term on the Council of Trustees as the Executive Director of the Foundation. Tracey is also the Director of Alumnae Relations at Brescia.	Marianne, in her third term with the Brescia Council of Trustees, is Brescia’s Registrar and Director of Student Affairs.	After an eight-year term, Sr. Joan is now beginning a new two-year term. She is the General Superior of the Ursuline Religious of the Diocese of London in Ontario.

Amy is an ex-officio member of the Council of Trustee a role she serves as Brescia’s Director of Financial Services.
