General Certificate of Education Requirements

Applicants seeking admission to Brescia on the basis of General Certificate of Education Examinations must submit the following:

Admission to the Preliminary Year Program:

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE)/General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) with passes in at least five academic subjects at the “O” level (Grade C or higher). These subjects must include English. One of mathematics, science, or a language other than English is recommended.
  • The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Certificate, Grades One-Three (effective 1998) at General Proficiency, will be accepted.

Admission to University Programs:

  1. Applicants seeking admission on the basis of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) must submit three distinct A-Level (or four distinct AS-Level) traditional academic subjects with grades of A and/or B for admission consideration. General Paper is not acceptable. Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs.
  2. Students who receive a ‘B’ grade on final GCE Advanced level exams will receive transfer credit for those courses approved by the appropriate faculty.
  3. Specific prerequisite courses are required for admission to some faculties/programs. Pre-requisites must be presented at the Advanced or Advanced Subsidiary Level; however, some programs may consider IGCSE/GCSE/Ordinary Level results with a grade of ‘B’ or above to satisfy prerequisites.
  4. Submission of five IGCSE/GCSE/Ordinary Level academic subjects or equivalent is required as reference for past academic success.

High School Applicants from the United States

Students graduating from an accredited High School in the U.S. with high standing (B average), are eligible to apply to first year studies.

Minimum requirements:

  • four grade 12 academic subjects.
  • SAT Reasoning Test = minimum of 1100
  • Grade 12 GPA = minimum of 3.0 gpa

Students not admissible to first-year university programs, may be admissible to Brescia’s pre-university qualifying year, the Preliminary Year program.

Advanced Placement Exams

Transfer credit may be granted for AP courses with a grade of 4 out of 5. A maximum of two transfer credits may be awarded. All transfer credit is subject to faculty approval, and some AP courses may not be eligible for transfer credit.
