Who should I contact if I have a question?
Brescia students should contact The Hive at brescia@uwo.ca or 519.858.5151. You are welcome to fill out a call-back form and someone will call you back from the Hive team.

The Hive staff are trained to answer questions in all areas related to academics, registration, fees and programming and are able to refer to departments as appropriate. Hive staff are also able to connect you with faculty, academic advisors, financial aid staff, librarians or support services on campus.

Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Please call or email The Hive at brescia@uwo.ca or 519.858.5151. Currently, in-person consultations are not available.

How do I get more information on, and apply to the Brescia Emergency Fund?
Brescia recognizes this is an especially challenging time for our students, some of whom are facing significant financial challenges as a direct result of COVID-19. We are working to identify and respond to students with immediate short-term financial concerns.

What is the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) and how do I apply?
The CESB will provide financial support to recent graduates and post-secondary students who are unable to work or find employment due to COVID-19, or are not earning over $1000, and who are not eligible for either the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or Employment Insurance (EI). The benefit will provide $1,250 every four weeks for eligible students or $2,000 every four weeks for eligible students with disabilities or those with children or other dependents. The CESB is available from May 10 until August 29, 2020. Applications are open and students can apply through the Canada Revenue Agency.
Can I still make an appointment with my Academic Advisor?
As of Wednesday March 18 at 5pm, Brescia moved to a modified services model. Academic Advisors are available for meetings by phone, or through email. Questions can be emailed to brescia@uwo.ca and online bookings for phone academic advising appointments can be made at https://directory.bookedin.com/brescia-university-college.
How will courses be offered for Fall/Winter 2020/2021?
For the upcoming academic year, we will have four different types of courses:

1. Traditional in-person courses, where physical distancing measures are in place. These courses will show up on the timetable with both class times and room locations. Brescia sections are 530-539.

2. Blended (that include both an online and in-person requirement). Sections for blended courses at Brescia are 230-239.

3. Online only. These courses are identified in the “notes” section of the timetable and will not have a course meeting time.

4. Online with class times; for these classes there will be live virtual lectures/discussions that will also be recorded for students to view at a later time. Some of these courses may be referred to as “synchronous”. These courses have room times, but no room locations.*All Food and Nutrition labs will be offered in person, with physical distancing. Lab students will be offered appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment.

Do I still need to make payments to the National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC) at this time?
To support student loan borrowers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Canada has announced a plan to pause the repayment of Canada Student Loans until September 30, 2020, with no accrual of interest. Pending parliamentary approval, these measures will become effective March 30, 2020. This will include pre-authorized debits.

Please visit the NSLSC website for more information. This is an automatic process.

If you wish to continue with your payments, please contact the NSLSC directly. Ontario government is now inline with the Federal government. Both governments are pausing interest accrual and pausing payments until September 30th in response to COVID-19.

I graduated this spring. How do I get my diploma and/or my Brescia ring? Am I able to still watch the virtual celebration that took place in June?
Diplomas
For those who graduated this spring, your degrees will be conferred, and we will ensure that your graduation “awarded” status is reflected on your official transcript. All diplomas will be mailed to you by Western in July.

Watch the Class of 2020 Celebration again!
As you’re aware, Western and Brescia decided to postpone Western’s spring convocation as part of our larger response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To mark your Brescia graduation this spring, our community came together to recognize your achievements by hosting a virtual Class of 2020 Celebration. Please note this celebration did not replace any official graduation ceremony; you will receive a formal invitation to mark this occasion in-person at a later date when health authorities advise it is safe.

Will advisors and support staff be available for phone appointments if I’m unable to come to campus?
Yes, all support staff are able to connect with students online and by phone.
Will I still be able to access the Writing Centre?
The Writing Centre will move to virtual appointments effective Wednesday, March 18th. To set up an online / virtual appointment please email Dr. Kubow at mlopatow@uwo.ca who can advise you on how to make an appointment.

Is there a food bank that I can access?
The USC food bank is closed but the food hamper system is still operating. Students can order pre-made food hampers for pick up in the UCC lockers on main campus.

Beryl Ivey Library

Please note the Beryl Ivey Library is closed, until further notice, to all visitors.
What resources are available to help me complete my coursework online?
The Beryl Ivey Library has many online resources such as e-books and journal articles available through Omni, our academic search tool. You can also get help from a Librarian by email, phone, or Zoom. Please visit our Student Online Resources page for more information.
How do I get in touch with the Beryl Ivey Library?
You can get in touch with us by emailing beryliveylibrary@uwo.ca or phoning 519-432-8353, extension 28296. If you phone the library, please leave a voicemail message and a library team member will return your call. You can also make an appointment for 1-on-1 help by filling in our Book a Librarian form.
What if I have library books that are due during the closure?
Please keep the library books you have until the Library is open again. Automatic notices have been turned off, however, it is still possible that you may have received a notice. You are not required to return library books at this time.
What about library fines?
We do not charge fines on general material. We will waive any fines on other material when it is able to be returned. It is not necessary for you to return materials to campus at this time. Please contact beryliveylibrary@uwo.ca with any questions regarding library services.
