Take the Lead Public

Speaking Contest

Five Minutes.
Four Rooms.
Three Prizes.
Two Rounds.
One Scholarship.

Choose to lead on November 10, and you could secure a fall/winter academic scholarship to Canada’s only women’s university.

Choose to be empowered by speaking about inspiring female leaders alongside grade 11 and 12 women from across Ontario.

Choose to be bold and compete in Take the Lead, hosted by the Institute for Women in Leadership (iWIL) at Brescia Unviersity College.

Speaking Topics

Registered participants research and prepare a five minute speech about women who inspire leadership.

Participants can choose to speak about past or present women who have inspired leadership on a large or small scale – from family member to celebrity. The possibilities are endless!

The Prizes

First Place A full one year fall/winter scholarship to Brescia University College

Second Place – A cheque for $250

Third Place – A cheque for $100

Each contestant will also receive a certificate of participation and a gift. Participation in Take the Lead will be added to your co-curricular transcript should you choose to enroll at Brescia for your studies.

The Event

When: Saturday, November 9, 2013
Where: Brescia University College’s Auditorium in the St. James building
Agenda:

9:15-9:30 a.m. Registration (Foyer) Coffee, tea, juice available
9:45 a.m. Welcome (Auditorium) Principal of Brescia, Dr. Colleen Hanycz
10:00 a.m. Preliminary round (Approximately 4-6 contestants will be assigned to a classroom. They will then present their speech to a panel of approximately 3-4 judges)
11:00 a.m. Presentation and Finalist Announcement (Auditorium) Dr. Colleen Hanycz announces finalists, snacks provided
11:30 a.m. Finalist round (The 6 contestants who received the highest scores in the preliminary rounds will present their speech again to a panel of ‘celebrity judges’ who will determine the winner of the full-year scholarship to Brescia)
12:15 p.m. Judges' Deliberation and Entertainment (Auditorium)
12:30 p.m. Winner Announced & Awards Presented (Auditorium)
12:45 p.m. Lunch (Living Room)
1:15 p.m. Tours of Brescia
