Huiwen Lu - BOLD Stories

 

Huiwen Lu arrived from Hubei, China in 2019. Her love of biology, chemistry and food led her to pursue her Honours Specialization in Nutrition & Dietetics at Brescia University College – a beautiful all-women’s university in London, Canada. Huiwen chose Brescia because our school’s programming is world renowned and  is unlike any other.

“Brescia’s closeknit all-women’s campus allows me to really involve myself in the university,” Huiwen shared. “I have been able to get to know my professors and classmates really well, and that has taught me how to communicate with people from around the world.”

The University’s emphasis on international student support really stuck out to Huiwen. As a newcomer, she relied on Brescia’s Library, Writing Centre and International Department to improve upon her English Language skills and ensure every assignment earned her the grades she needs to flourish.

 “One of the most special aspects of Brescia is that it really teaches every woman to become a leader. Whether you want to lead yourself or become a leader of others, Brescia calls women to their purpose and helps them deliver on it with workshops, career and academic supports, and programs that reflect our unique power.”

 

Beyond enhancing her academic capacity,  Brescia also made it easy for Huiwen to make new friends and build meaningful relationships. During International Bridging Week, she met students from across the entire Western University community – and around the world. Together, guided by Brescia’s International Student Leaders, they visited Niagara Falls, set up bank accounts, went shopping for their luxury residence suites and more.

“My parents quickly recognized the extent of the services Brescia provides to help ensure you are successful in school and in your career,” Huiwen explains. “I am always excited to tell them about the international celebrations, incredible faculty expertise and academic ingenuity that makes Brescia the best place for global women to learn.”

After living in China her entire life, Huiwen was nervous about moving to London, Canada. But, she quickly fell in love with Brescia and the city’s broader university community. During her free time, Huiwen likes to go to Masonville Mall, visit the nearby movie theatre, go bowling or visit all of the restaurants and grocery stores that make the flavours of China readily accessible.

The combination of a vibrant university city, profound leadership experiences and world-leading academics make Brescia the perfect place for Huiwen to thrive. We are thrilled to have her with us and look forward to see where her bold ambitions take her.
