One-of-a-kind leadership camp continues to take new campers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – Now entering its ninth year, Brescia University College’s premier summer day camp, Girls LEAD (Leadership, Education and Development), continues to take new campers for the 2016 summer season. Although the camp, hosted on Brescia’s campus, is close to full capacity, spaces are still available for girls in Grades 3 through 6 searching for a one-of-a-kind leadership opportunity.

As the only all girls leadership camp operating in the region, Girls LEAD has become a staple in the London community for girls seeking a “beyond camp experience” in an inclusive and creative environment. Kimberley Young Milani, Manager of Leadership and Community Engagement explains, “Girls LEAD is a unique and enriching program which promotes and embodies Brescia’s mission to empower girls to ‘choose to lead.’”

Running from July 4th through August 26th, Girls LEAD consists of six two-week sessions, for girls entering Grades 3 and 4 (Junior) and Grades 5 and 6 (Intermediate). The cost of the session for both age groups is $470 and includes a nutritious lunch, which accommodates dietary restrictions.

Girls LEAD caters to the unique needs of the campers at specific stages in their growth and development. For the Junior campers, the camp focuses on promoting healthy self-awareness and the development of positive social skills, for the Intermediate campers, emphasis is on self-discovery and positive thinking.

Campers will also benefit by participating in a nutritious and interactive lunch program – Lunch and Lead. This innovative program provides girls with the opportunity to be taught to prepare meals by Brescia’s Foods and Nutrition students and faculty in the Brescia Food Labs. “One of the greatest inhibitors to a girl’s leadership is low body confidence, often stemming from unhealthy body image and a viewed societal pressure to be thin,” says Ms. Young Milani. “By offering our Lunch and Lead program, we seek to not only increase a girl’s food literacy, but to also establish a healthy relationship with food, their body and their self-esteem.”

Girls LEAD London Day Camps will be hosted at Brescia in six sessions:

Week One: Monday, July 4 – Friday, July 15, Intermediate
Week Two: Monday, July 18 – Friday, July 29, Junior & Intermediate
Week Three: Tuesday, August 2 – Friday, August 12, Junior
Week Four: Monday, August 15 – Friday, August 26, Junior & Intermediate
