Brescia appoints London native for the role of Vice-Principal and Academic Dean

London, ON – After an international search process that began last summer, Brescia University College has appointed London native Dr. Lauretta Frederking as its new Vice-Principal and Academic Dean. Currently serving as Associate Provost at the University of Portland, Dr. Frederking will assume her new position at Brescia on July 1, 2018.

A passionate and experienced educator and leader, who believes in educating the whole person, Dr. Frederking brings with her over 20 years of teaching and research experience and a wealth of knowledge in the areas of diversity and inclusion programming. She began her teaching career at Washington University, where she worked as a lecturer and then as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science. She then moved to St. Louis University, where she taught as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science. In her current role as Associate Provost at the University of Portland, where she has spent the last 15 years of her career, she has served as a member of the President’s Leadership Cabinet and was responsible for many key successes at the University including but not limited to: new faculty orientation; centralizing initiatives that promoted attention to diversity and inclusion and academic regulations and exceptions. She was also Chair of the University Core Curriculum Committee.

Dr. Frederking holds a BA from the University of Toronto (Political Science); an MA from Columbia University (Political Science) and a PhD from Washington University in St. Louis (Political Science).

“Dr. Frederking is an accomplished and respected academic leader, whose teaching and research philosophies align directly with Brescia’s values and mission,” says Brescia’s Principal, Dr. Susan Mumm. “As we approach Brescia’s 100th anniversary, we are at pivotal time in our University’s history, and are reminded of how fortunate we are to bring aboard new leaders, like Dr. Frederking, who embody Brescia’s brand by choosing to lead.”

Dr. Frederking will be returning to her hometown of London and says, “I am honoured by this opportunity to join the Brescia community! It will be an immense joy to be a member of this vibrant University and to help drive its mission and vision for the formation of women. This is a homecoming for me, and I eagerly look forward to serving Brescia through administrative leadership as Vice-Principal and Academic Dean.”
