Brescia’s Just Own It! Conference welcomes 100 high school entrepreneurs-in-the-making

April 11, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – On Thursday, April 12th, the spirit of female entrepreneurship will be at Brescia University College. Back by popular demand, the University will welcome almost 100 high school girls to campus for its one-day entrepreneurship conference, Just Own It! The interactive day will provide the opportunity for students to be exposed to, explore and experience entrepreneurship, with the ultimate objective to increase girls’ awareness of entrepreneurship as a career.

Spearheaded by Brescia professors, Melissa Jean and Colleen Sharen, the Just Own It! Conference will be comprised of several dynamic elements. Students will have the opportunity to participate in active learning workshops that will be facilitated by 12 local female entrepreneurs, as well as university student mentors. In these workshops, students will explore the process of generating and identifying ideas to solve consumer and/or community problems related to starting up and maintaining a successful business. Students will also enjoy a mid-day meal and participate in a “speed dating” networking event, where they can network with and learn more about small business resources in London and the surrounding area.

The event will conclude with a keynote address by Brescia alumna, Marlee Armour. A 2017 graduate of Brescia’s Management and Organizational Studies Program, Ms Armour will draw upon her experiences as the founder and owner of Summer Swim Academy to share her first-hand experience with and lessons about entrepreneurship.
