Brescia to open new on-campus student resource: Christina’s Closet

August 27, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, ON – On Wednesday, August 29th, as Brescia University College prepares to welcome students back to campus for the new school year, the University will proudly open the doors of its new on-campus student and community resource space, Christina’s Closet. This student-centred University initiative is designed to offer Brescia’s female and male students with the opportunity to obtain complimentary clean, new and gently-used clothing, accessories and household items that have been generously donated by Brescia’s students, faculty, staff and alumnae as well as local community members.

Spearheaded by Brescia’s International Co-ordinator, Christina Lord, the Closet was established after recognizing a need among International students for seasonal clothing during London’s winter months; many of these students have never or would not otherwise experience temperatures that exist in a typical Canadian winter climate. The idea expanded to providing a warm and safe space for all Brescia students, who may be experiencing financial barriers. As an environmentally-conscious community, Christina’s Closet also aspires to limit landfill waste by providing a second life to clothing and other donated goods. The Closet will remain open to students throughout the academic year on a request-by-request basis; donations will also continue to be accepted.

“At Brescia, we are committed to providing an empowering environment for our students to succeed academically and to thrive personally and as leaders,” says International Co-ordinator, Christina Lord. “By limiting financial barriers, and providing easy access to basic needs, we believe our students will have a higher likelihood of reaching their potential and creating and achieving a bold future.”

Media and members of the local community are invited to attend the Open House for Christina’s Closet, which takes place at Brescia’s Ursuline Hall on Wednesday, August 29th from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
