Brescia honours the women leaders of yesterday, today and tomorrow at Centennial Baccalaureate and Convocation celebrations

London, ON – On Sunday, June 16th, Brescia University College will commence its two-day long Centennial graduation celebrations, honouring the 262 members of its Class of 2019.

Close to 900 Brescia graduands, faculty, staff and friends will gather at London’s St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday, June 16th at 3:00 p.m. for the University’s 97th annual Baccalaureate Ceremony. In addition to receiving their alumnae rings and reciting the alumnae pledge, Brescia’s graduands and guests will hear from the 2019 Dr. Joan Francolini Distinguished Speaker, Nazanin Afshin-Jam MacKay. In honour of the University’s Centennial year, the international human rights and democracy activist, author and sought-after public speaker will speak to Brescia’s graduating class about the importance of women in leadership and choosing to lead.

The celebrations continue on Monday, June 17th when over 220 graduands, accompanied by their families, will gather at Brescia’s campus before taking part in the University’s traditional graduation procession at 1:45 p.m. – led by bagpiper Eileen Robertson. The graduands will process down Brescia Hill to Alumni Hall at Western University and have their degrees officially conferred.

In addition to celebrating the Class of 2019, three distinguished faculty will also be recognized during the two-day celebration: Dr. Colleen O’Connor, recipient of the Award for Excellence in Teaching – Full-time Faculty; Dr. Jamie Seabrook, recipient of the Award for Excellence in Research and Ms. Bridget DeMarchi, recipient of the Award for Excellence in Teaching – Contract Faculty.
