Phased Return

Planning for the fall term: Brescia’s phased return to campus

Brescia continues to work on developing plans for our students, faculty and staff to safely return to campus. We are working on a roll-out approach that includes four phases. The first phase started May 19, 2020, where our talented facilities staff are on-site cleaning and sanitizing our campus space. Brescia has also secured a sufficient number of masks, gloves and where required, face shields for our community members who require or feel more comfortable wearing the appropriate PPE.

It is important to note that staff will receive information from their managers and work together on a plan to return to campus. Many of Brescia’s staff and faculty will continue to work from home unless specifically required to come to campus.

Ensuring a Safe Campus

The health and safety of our campus community is our top priority. We are taking every precaution necessary to ensure you’re safe on campus. Visit Western University’s Health & Safety site for more details on what Western and the affiliate campuses are doing to ensure your safety.

Here are safety measures specific to Brescia’s campus:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
OpenClose

Brescia has secured a sufficient number of masks, gloves and where required, face shields for our community members who require or feel more comfortable wearing the appropriate PPE.

Everyone is required to wear a non-medical mask/face covering if you are medically able. This is required when in the presence of others and in common and shared spaces on campus, including lounges and classrooms. Employees will be supplied with two washable Brescia-branded non-medical masks/face coverings when returning to campus. These masks will be available in the near future.

In the meantime, disposable masks are available for all to use and can be picked up at the front desk in the reception area of the St. James Building.

Required Self-Declaration Form
OpenClose

A new self-declaration form and process is in development for all staff and faculty working on site. Beginning Monday, August 10, 2020, staff and faculty will be required to submit a form on a weekly basis if they will be on campus. This will be facilitated through a Qualtrics Survey sent out to all staff and faculty every Monday and will be submitted to Human Resources. Those that have already returned to working at Brescia must also fill out the weekly declaration.

Signage and traffic flow
OpenClose

To ensure that our community follows recommended physical distancing protocol, you will notice that the way you move through campus may be different. Brescia is introducing new traffic flow measures so you can move safely through our spaces.

Specific entrances and exits will be designated as “in” only and other doors will be indicated as “out” only. Please watch for signage that will guide you on using the correct doors and entrances.

Each of our classrooms will have a maximum capacity with clear signage on entrance/exit procedures. Work spaces, desks and seating will be clearly marked where to ensure distancing measures are followed.

The Mercato
OpenClose

The Mercato will be open to serve our students and community in September. To ensure everyone is doing their part to keep each other safe:

  • New traffic flow measures will be introduced to respect distancing measures
  • Dining and seating areas in the Mercato will be modified slightly to accommodate physical distancing
  • Current plans for reopening the Marche (food service area) will model a reduced capacity with approximately 20-25 visitors at a time

Please review our Routine cleaning and disinfecting requirements, prepared by Facilities Management which outlines Brescia’s cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

Return to Campus Questionnaire

Prior to your return to work on campus all staff and faculty should follow the steps noted below:

Complete the Ontario Health Self-Assessment
OpenClose
On the recommendation of the Middlesex-London Health Unit, and to protect the campus community, prior to completing Brescia’s “return to campus form”, you should complete a self-assessment via the Ontario COVID-19 Self-Assessment Link which takes a few minutes to complete. This assessment will help determine whether it is safe for you to come to campus without exposing others to COVID-19.
If you answer “yes” to any of the questions on the self-assessment, please stay home and do not return to campus until you have consulted with a health care practitioner.
Complete Brescia’s Return to Campus Online Form
OpenClose
Brescia has created an online return to campus form for non-essential workers that must be completed prior to your return to campus. Please ensure your manager has approved your return and/or temporary visit to campus.

Protect yourself and others

Follow these helpful tips:

  • Practice physical distancing. When possible, stay two metres apart.
  • Brescia requires the use of non-medical masks/face coverings in the workplace. These act as a personal hygiene measure to protect others from potential infectious droplets. Should you require a non-medical mask/face covering, please contact the Hive.
  • Wash your hands, thoroughly and often.
  • Avoid touching your face.

If you’re concerned you may have COVID-19, take a self-assessment on Ontario’s COVID-19 Checkup site.

If you’re concerned someone you know has COVID-19, visit the Government of Canada COVID-19 Awareness Resources site for more information.

Thank you

Ensuring the health and safety of our campus community is paramount. As we gradually transition back to campus, we will continue to keep this page up-to-date with the information you need to know about returning to the campus. And, when the time is right, your manager will provide you with information related to when you are required to report to work on campus.

As plans continue to develop please remain flexible as information can change due to directives by local and provincial government and health authorities. Decisions are being made carefully, one step at a time, to ensure Brescia follows proper protocol and local public health and safety guidelines.
