Direct Pathway Admission to Western Faculty of Education

This form is to be completed by students in their 3rd and 4th year of study in the French or Family Studies program. The purpose for this form is to allow the Academic Advising team to work with you in achieving the requirements needed for the direct pathway admission. Please note that while you will be required in your final year to provide a Teaching Profile Statement, this document is not required for the purpose of this expression of interest. 

OUAC-TEAS applications for Fall 2024 will open in mid-September and close on December 1st, 2023. 

*CASPer Assessment is a mandatory requirement for all applicants including direct pathway applicants.

Testing takes place directly through the CASPer site. You will require your OUAC/TEAS Reference Number and government-issued ID to sign up for CASPer. You will receive your OUAC/TEAS Reference Number after you submit your TEAS application. CASPer results are sent directly to the Faculty of Education at Western by the CASPer agency.

You will register for Altus Suite for CSP-20209 Canadian Teacher’s Education – After Degree

Be sure to use the same name and email address on the TEAS application and CASPer.

You must complete a new CASPer test each year.

Testing dates for the 2023-2024 application cycle are:

October 18, 2023 – 8:00 p.m. EDT

November 02, 2023 – 5:00 p.m. EDT

*Starting next school year (2024-2025), all direct pathway applicants will have to take EDUC 2200: Perspectives on Schooling. It is not essential for the 2023-2024 4th year class to have this class.

The following are the criteria for which your application will be assessed in your final year of undergraduate studies for the purpose of your Bachelor of Education application:

Criteria to be assessed for French students (to be completed by Brescia Staff):

  • Cumulative average of 75% or above in French courses
  • Intermediate/ Senior: 70% average in at least 3 full courses supporting a second teachable subject
  • Junior/ Intermediate: at least 1/2 course in at least four of six background subject areas
  • Primary/Junior: at least 1/2 course in at least four of six background subject areas
  • 70% in best 10.0 courses

Criteria to be assessed for Family Studies students (to be completed by Brescia Staff):

  • Top 5.0 average of 75% or above in Family Studies and Human Development courses
  • Intermediate/ Senior: 70% average in at least 3 full courses supporting a second teachable subject
  • 70% in best 10.0 courses

Note: If the required criteria are not met, students may still apply to the Faculty of Education through the regular application process during first-term of their graduation year.

The following documents are NOT required until September 30 of your FINAL year of study:
