Japanese and Canadian Food and Nutrition Cultures and Professions

Course Description: Japanese and Canadian Food and Nutrition Cultures and Professions is a 1.0 credit course. Regular classes will be held at Brescia in the winter term with an intensive 10-day study tour to Toyko/Ichikawa Japan in February. During classes at Brescia and through seminars, lectures, site visits and other activities in Japan; students will explore the differences between food and nutrition cultures and professions.

Toyko and Ichikawa, Japan:

  • School lunch program
  • Child day care operation
  • Tsukigi fish market
  • Hospital food service
  • Soba- or sushi-making facility
  • Local temple
  • Nursing home

Expenses:

  • Flight + Hotel (double occupancy) - $1,800 CDN
  • Airport Transfers - $150 CDN
  • Meals in Japan (lunch & dinner) - $600 CDN
  • Japan Site Visits and Transportation - $500 CDN
  • Total expected cost= $3,050

Please note, all students participating must also provide a valid police check for working with vulnerable populations. All costs are estimates and may be subject to change. Additionally, this course has limited enrolment. Students will be placed on a waiting list in the event of over-enrolment.
