What inspired you to join the LEAD WITH US campaign as a volunteer?

Brescia is the embodiment of what a small university can and should be. Its commitment to providing a holistic education to its students, in furtherance of (and without compromising) academic excellence has helped empower young women for over 100 years. With recent cuts to post-secondary government funding, coupled with planned changes to funding allocations, Brescia’s comprehensive fundraising campaign couldn’t be more critical or timely. The LEAD WITH US campaign not only supports the needs and advancement of Brescia’s campus, but also provides financial support for its students, schools and programs.

Why do we need to support women’s education?

At the risk of stereotyping, women generally think, act and lead differently than men, and because of this, their contributions to their families, communities and society are incredibly valuable. Formal education provides an important opportunity for women to not only gain subject-matter knowledge and skills, but if done properly, can help women develop self-confidence and communication skills and empower them to be an active participant within their families, communities and society.

Why is a women’s only university still relevant today?

As a women’s only university, Brescia provides a campus environment that is conducive to helping our students develop their voice, self-confidence and self-appreciation – all of which are critically important as they enter adulthood. At women’s only universities, research shows that women are more engaged in campus life and report the highest levels of support in their development. Students at women’s colleges and/or universities also tend to have significantly greater satisfaction with their academic, developmental, and personal experiences in comparison to co-ed counterparts.
