Audio-visual materials (DVDs, CDs, etc.) are kept behind the circulation desk. VHS videos are interfiled with other materials in the stacks. DVDs ,VHS, and CDs can be borrowed for a maximum of 7 days with no renewals permitted.

Reference Materials and Periodicals

Reference and Periodical publications are housed in the regular collection or in storage. These materials are designated for in-library use only.

Return Procedures

Library items should be returned as soon as they are no longer needed so they are available for use by others.

  • Regular loan and recalled items may be returned to any of the Western Libraries or Affiliated University College Libraries in person, by mail or via courier by the date specified.
  • Reserve and short loan items must be returned to the owning library by the date specified (e.g. a Brescia Course Readings book must be returned to the Beryl Ivey Library at Brescia).

Short loan and recalled items returned after the due date are subject to overdue fines.

Fines

Fine Rates

Overdue fines will not be charged for regular loans of any materials. Patrons will be given 30 days to return materials before the item is declared lost.

Items declared lost will incur the following charges:

  • $25 non-refundable administration charge
  • $125 default replacement charge
Material Type Per Item Maximum Per Item
Hourly Loan Materials $2.00 / hour $56.00
Short Loan Materials $2.00 / day $56.00
Recalled Materials $4.00 / day $56.00

Borrowers are responsible for all materials logged on their account. It is the responsibility of library account holders to return all items undamaged and to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity. It is the responsibility of library account holders to keep their Identification Cards secure – items borrowed using stolen account information or ID will be the responsibility of the account holder unless the ID theft or suspicious activity was reported to the Library immediately upon discovery.

Borrowers who hold library materials overdue, or who are otherwise indebted to The Beryl Ivey Library, will have their borrowing privileges suspended. Suspension of borrowing privileges occurs when you have accumulated more than $20 in fines. Borrowing privileges will be reinstated when all overdue materials are returned and/or replacement fees paid and all fines and processing fees are paid. Repeated violation of borrowing rules may lead to the permanent suspension of borrowing privileges.

If you have lost or damaged library material, please contact the home library.

Payment Information:

The Beryl Ivey Library accepts Visa, Mastercard, and Interac debit payments at the Library Service Desk.

An online payment option is also available to faculty, students and staff through My Library Account using Visa or MasterCard.

Interlibrary Loans:

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service supports the research and scholarship needs of the Brescia community by attempting to borrow materials not available at Western Libraries, the Affiliated University College Libraries (Brescia, Huron, King's) and St. Peter's Seminary or any of the campus resource centres. The service is available to all registered faculty, students and staff of Brescia University College, the other affiliated University Colleges (Huron, King's), Western Libraries, and St. Peter's Seminary.

To request interlibrary loans from Omni:

  • Login to My Library Account.
  • Use the search bar to look for items in the catalogue.
  • If an item is not available in our collection, there will be a "Get it from another library" button in the "How to get it" section of the item record.
  • Complete the request form and select submit. The system will ensure your request is directed to the library that can fill it the quickest.

Not seeing what you’re looking for? Expand your search results by selecting "Add results beyond Western & Affiliate Libraries collection" using the toggle in the left navigation. If you’re still stuck, use the "Interlibrary Loan" request form located in the top navigation bar to enter your citation information and someone from the ILL team will process your request.
