What should I expect to do each week in Thriving at Brescia?

Each week we focus on community building and a rhythm that includes a thriving skill, a learning skill, meditation, mindful movement, creative writing, and gratitude. 
There will be arts-based and non-dominant forms of demonstrating understanding including re-storying, photos sharing, creating videos, reflective writing, etc. throughout the 8-week course.  

What topics will be covered in this program?

A few examples include, but not limited to building new habits, sleep, developing grit, mindfulness, flow, coping, test-taking strategies, holistic note taking, time management, etc. 

Will I get a credit for attending this program?

Every student who completes 5 out of the 8 sessions will be eligible to request this program on their co-curricular record.  
What do I gain from participating in Thriving at Brescia?

By the end of the "Thriving at Brescia" Program, we hope you are able to:

  • Define ‘thriving’ as it relates to your own unique journey.
  • Explain the importance of wellness activities like physical, emotional, and nutritional wellness and how they directly  impact academic success.
  • Utilize the Five Factor Model of Resilience to bounce back from at least one challenge.
  • Apply learning and thriving strategies using your unique strengths to achieve personal goals.
  • Build peer-based and campus support communities to assist in overcoming challenges and achieving personal success.
  • Value thriving as an ongoing process in developing mindful practices as a student and lifelong learner. 

You will also have access to office hours to ask the Thriving at Brescia coaches anything related to course content and/or the implementation of skills learned. 

Do I have to attend every week?

This is an 8-week program that requires a commitment for learning. If you are unable to commit to the full 8-weeks, you can check out the other wellness offerings we have and/or Toronto Metropolitan University’s Thriving in Action Online as an alternative. 

When is this program offered?

Thriving at Brescia will start the third week of classes in Fall and Winter term for 2022-2023 academic year and run virtually on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the Fall term and from 9:30am-11:30am in the Winter term. The program will not run over reading weeks and/or holidays. 

The fall cohort of Thriving at Brescia will run September 20 - November 15, 2022 (not including fall reading break).

The Winter cohort of Thriving at Brescia will run January 26, 2023 - March 16, 2023 (not including spring break) .

Who is eligible to participate?

Any Brescia undergraduate and/or graduate student who has completed at least one term of post-secondary studies. Student must be available to attend all 8-weeks of the program. 

Thriving at Brescia welcomes all students including those on academic probation, dean’s waiver, students with disabilities, and injured or struggling athletes. We welcome racialized and minoritized students, Indigenous students, equity-seeking students, LGBTQQIP2SAA students. We welcome mature students, international students. We welcome grad students, working students, and students raising or caring for families. In other words, if you feel like you’re ready to learn and practice new strategies to thrive personally and academically, we not only welcome you but encourage you to give Thriving at Brescia a try.
