From seven students in 1919, Brescia is currently the home of 1,350 full-time and 200 part-time student leaders. Building on Brescia’s inclusive culture, 14% of the University’s full-time students are international and come from over 36 countries around the world.
The University is proud to remain true to its student-centred roots and maintain a 14:1 student/faculty ratio, providing an average class size of 29 students. With a continued emphasis on academic excellence and the development of leadership skills, Brescia’s students are able to study a diverse set of programs, including: pre-university Preliminary Year program; Bachelor’s degrees in Arts and Social Science, Management and Organizational Studies, Family Studies, Health Sciences and Kinesiology; Bachelor’s and Masters of Science degrees in Foods and Nutrition with Specializations in Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science and Technology.
In addition, to prepare its students for life-long success, Brescia follows an outcomes-based approach to academics and commits to graduating students who have mastered Brescia’s seven competencies (Communication, Critical Thinking, Inquiry and Analysis, Problem Solving, Self Awareness and Development, Social Awareness and Engagement and Valuing).
Although Brescia is based in the Catholic Faith, the University welcomes students from all faith backgrounds and has offered a spiritual and holistic environment to its students for the past 100 years.
As Brescia University College celebrates its Centennial year, it will also set a course for the next 100 years with the opening of a new state-of-the art Academic Pavilion. Demand for the Brescia experience is strong. To respond to this demand, and stepping confidently into the future as Canada’s only women’s university, we are expanding our beautiful campus to support our world-class academic programs, current and future growth aspirations and bold leadership for decades to come.
With an anticipated opening date of September 2019, the 30,000 square feet light-filled Pavilion will capture the best in educational design. The $14 million Pavilion will include three state-of-the-art food and science laboratories, sensory and research laboratories, two multi-tiered classrooms, an active learning classroom designed for dynamic group work, a purpose-built counseling room, an expansive student lounge and a community gathering space.
