The Peer Support Space, driven by the Wellness Peers, is a program focused on peer-to-peer support for students experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns. This drop-in service encourages students seeking support to come and speak with thoroughly trained Wellness Peers who promote mental health wellbeing, resilience building, and increasing self-care and self-management strategies. This service is the first stop for many students before accessing further services. This service is run through the Student Life Centre and while this program is provided by Brescia students, they are advised by Brescia staff members.
The Peer Support Space has been intentionally created to be a space unlike any other on-campus, offering a calming aesthetic, items to help with grounding, resources for students to learn from, and peers to provide hope and help. This space offers privacy and confidentiality, with no identifying information being collected as students access the space and white noise machine to mitigate conversations being overheard. The Peer Support Space is located in St. James Building Room 157, across from the Student Life Centre.

Marlies: My name is Marlies McCartney, and I am a second year Hons. Specialization in Family Studies and Human Development student. I am originally from the Bahamas and I am so excited to be one of your Wellness Peers this year! I wanted to be a wellness peer so I am able to not only better educate myself on mental health and wellness, but also educate and assist our student body with whatever is needed. I wanted to be a resource as well as source of support for anyone who needs me!
Lily: Hey! I’m Lily. I’m in my third year studying Psychology at Brescia and I still absolutely love learning about people… we are such fascinating creatures! I am thrilled to be a Wellness Peer this year and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to turn my passion for student mental health into action. I believe that when we focus on student wellness – both mental and physical – students are more capable of being successful and reaching their full potential. I can’t wait to put this belief into practice as a wellness peer!
